For he shall save the poor when they cry
and the needy who are helpless.
He will have pity on the weak
and save the lives of the poor.
All nations shall fall prostrate before you, O Lord.

Into thin air
these prayers
go
against
the cloud-
calm cold
in both directions--
how long
this uneasy
reaching out
through
frost breath's
filigrees
into thin air
where my heart
hesitates
its’ song
alone
between
the sun going down
and the dark?
